Forst ST6p Petrol Wood Chipper Review
The Forst ST6P Sub 750kg Petrol Wood Chipper, is the force behind its name?.
Before we go into the Forst ST6P petrol wood chipper, this is what we wanted from a new wood chipper for our company. To carry us forward for at least 3 years. No chip over spray, but can reach the front of the chip box. Fast, but fuel efficient, meet new legislation. Compact, yet powerful and robust.
- A light and compact machine
- Below 750kg (for any driver to use)
- Chip speed and discharge velocity
- Meet upcoming emission rules (2019 stage V)
- Come with 3 year warranty
A day with the Forst ST6P
We just done a great short video on the Forst ST6P in collaboration with Forst (Nov 2017). We don’t get paid or influenced by Forst, we did this for them as our team is genuinely pleased with it. Check the video out here:

The Forst delivered all the above and more!. Anvil changes on past machines are difficult, on the Forst St6p petrol wood chipper, they have provided an easy out anvil solution which has impressed us lot.
The Forst has over sized main bearings and feed roller bearings, which gives confidence in reliability and performance.
L.E.D tail lights should be standard on all chippers, Forst have them. We are tired of always replacing bulbs, chippers bounce over speed humps and break bulbs more than you would want.
The new Forst comes with a v-twin petrol Briggs and Stratton vanguard engine, 993cc with 37hp gross. After looking around the net the torque appears to be 50-60nm (not confirmed). The engine also has a 3 year BS commercial warranty. It is comparable to diesel equivalents in terms of power, only 15-20nm down on torque (unconfirmed)
This is a fast wood chipper, I would expect its capacity to be between 3.5t-5t per hour. Fuel consumptions is an unknown. The manufacturers suggests it’s comparable to an equivalent diesel of around 35hp.
Build quality is very impressive, it was one of its main selling points. Longevity is yet to be known as it’s a brand new model.

Update Nov 2017:
Fuel consumption is excellent, the machine has worked without fault. Forst are on hand when ever i have questions. So far, one happy tree surgery crew. We managed to fill our iveco daily super fast. Two men can just about keep up when its at full speed. The perfect small contractors machine. Which is perhaps 80% of the domestic industry.
Maintaining The Forst St6p Petrol Wood chipper After 20 Hours
After 20 hours on the machine it was time to change the blades, also a service reminder popped on the screen to suggest replacing the hydraulic oil filter. Changing the hydraulic filter is very simple, unscrew the cap onto of the hydraulic tank, allow the filter to drain off, clean the filter bowl out if there is any debris and insert the new filter and re tighten the cap, don’t over tighten.
The blades are simple too, clean the Allen key holes and nut holes of debris using a small screw driver. Then, using a torque wrench and large Allen key, whilst using a piece of wood to secure the rotor, undo the nuts. Remove the blades and clean the rotor surfaces where the blades sit. Install the new blades securing the rotor from the opposite rotational direction and tighten to 310nm of torque. If the chip size is to large after multiple blade sharpens, Forst sell shims (0.25-2.5)

We did purchase a second set of blades so as to cycle them whilst one set is being sharpened, which costs about £15-20
