British Bees are in Real Danger
Can you imagine a world without bees? It wouldn’t just be the gentle buzzing that’s such a part of the British summertime that we would miss. The role of bees goes much, much further and with constant threats to our natural landscape, disease and the widespread use of pesticides in British crops over the last 100 years 20 species of bees have become extinct in the UK and 35 more natives species of these pollinating miracle workers are in serious trouble.
The Role of Bees in Our Lives
Bees do a remarkable job. They pollinate three quarters of all our crops as well as countless species of wild flowers. Without them our world, and our dinner tables, would look very different. At T.H Tree Services we understand the importance of bees and know we must do everything we can to conserve and protect our remaining species.
Ways that you can help to Save Endangered British Bees
Earlier in the year the three harmful pesticides called neonicotinoids were banned from use for the next two years across Europe. This is good news for the fight to save our bees but there are things that we could all do to help, some of them are easier than you might think.
– Plant flowers to create bee-friendly gardens. Bees love buddleia, rhododendron, cornflower, sunflower and wild flowers too
– Lobby your local MPs to support the ban of many toxic pesticides and to fund investigation into the causes of the declining number of bees in our country
– Support local bee-keepers, or become one yourself!
– Don’t use insecticides in the garden – they’re not only bad news for our beloved bees but they’re harmful to birds and other wildlife too
– Invest in, or try your hand at making a bee house. These offer shelter for bees during the winter
What are your thoughts on our declining bee population? Are you doing anything to help?
