Advice on Choosing the Perfect Christmas Tree
As we start getting in the mood for the festive season, it’s time to think about this year’s Christmas tree. It’s the focal point of all the celebrations, so it’s got to be just perfect!
Ever wishing to be helpful, we’ve put together a guide for you to help you choose the ideal Christmas tree.
Preparation, Preparation, Preparation
First of all, think about where it’s going to go, where is it’s pride of place this year? Make sure you choose a location away from heat like fireplaces, radiators and televisions. Next, take measurements of the height and width of the room so you can make sure the tree fits perfectly and doesn’t overpower the space.
What Type of Tree?
Not all Christmas trees are the same, despite looking similar. Spruce, fir and pine trees are all popular Christmas trees. The general rule is, fir or pine trees tend to lose just a small number of needles as they dry out. A spruce will likely lose the majority of its needles unless you keep it well watered.
Some trees have their own special attributes. If you love the pine scent, so indicative of Christmas, then go for a Grand Fir which offers a delicious aroma.
Checking Quality & Freshness
Ask the retailer when their trees come in. Do they get one batch in at the beginning of the festive season, or do they have smaller deliveries over a few weeks? The latter means you’ll get a fresher tree.
Running your hand over the branches to see if the tree retains its needles is a good way to check freshness. Also look for flexible branches.
Steer clear of Christmas trees wrapped in netting. You won’t be able to test the needles or feel the branches and you’ll be in the dark as to its shape too.
Finishing Touches
No we’re not talking baubles, that’s where you come in! Get yourself a water holding stand if the Christmas tree you’ve chosen isn’t potted, and water it well throughout the season. That way it will serve you well through to New Year. Enjoy!
